How our count compares
Official estimates of the African diaspora, side by side with iCount. Official figures often miss people born abroad with African roots, so every person who counts in helps tell the fuller story.
Estimates: UN DESA International Migrant Stock 2024 (via SWP Berlin), Migration Policy Institute (US, 2023), ONS Census 2021 (England & Wales, Black African identity), Statistics Canada Census 2021 (Black population). Definitions differ, so comparisons are approximate.
Every share brings us closer. Invite family and friends abroad to count themselves in.

Our diaspora, across the world
Where members of the count live today. To protect privacy, a country appears once at least 10 people there have joined; smaller groups are combined into “Other countries”.
Our roots

How it works
Our privacy promises
- We never ask for names, passports, visa or immigration status, addresses, dates of birth or ID numbers.
- Your individual answers are confidential and never shown publicly. We only publish combined totals, and hide any group smaller than 10.
- Count data is kept separate from our newsletter, advertising and business records. It is never sold.
- Joining the count never signs you up for marketing. Updates are a separate, optional choice.
- You can withdraw at any time with your private code, or by emailing info@tokunbocentral.com.
- This is a voluntary community count, not an official government census.
Questions
Is this an official census?
No. iCount is an independent, voluntary community count run by Tokunbo Central. It measures who chooses to take part, not the total number of Africans abroad, and it is not connected to any government.
Who can take part?
Any adult (18+) who feels connected to the African diaspora: people who moved abroad from Africa, people born abroad with African roots, and others with a connection to the diaspora.
Is it anonymous?
We don’t collect your name, and your answers are stored with a random ID. If you choose to give an email for updates, it is stored separately, encrypted and not linked to your answers. Individual answers are confidential, and public results are combined totals only.
Can I count my family?
Each adult should count themselves, so everyone gives their own consent. Please share the page with family and friends instead. We don’t count children.
How do I withdraw?
