How our count compares

Official estimates of the African diaspora, side by side with iCount. Official figures often miss people born abroad with African roots, so every person who counts in helps tell the fuller story.

Estimates: UN DESA International Migrant Stock 2024 (via SWP Berlin), Migration Policy Institute (US, 2023), ONS Census 2021 (England & Wales, Black African identity), Statistics Canada Census 2021 (Black population). Definitions differ, so comparisons are approximate.

Questions

Is this an official census?

No. iCount is an independent, voluntary community count run by Tokunbo Central. It measures who chooses to take part, not the total number of Africans abroad, and it is not connected to any government.

Who can take part?

Any adult (18+) who feels connected to the African diaspora: people who moved abroad from Africa, people born abroad with African roots, and others with a connection to the diaspora.

Is it anonymous?

We don’t collect your name, and your answers are stored with a random ID. If you choose to give an email for updates, it is stored separately, encrypted and not linked to your answers. Individual answers are confidential, and public results are combined totals only.

Can I count my family?

Each adult should count themselves, so everyone gives their own consent. Please share the page with family and friends instead. We don’t count children.

How do I withdraw?

Use the private code you receive after joining in the box below, or email info@tokunbocentral.com.
